Congratulations Sheena and Mark! Wow, this was such a cool destination wedding dress to design and work on. I first met Sheena in London at one of my favourite haunts, Balans. Over a bottle of prosecco we talked about her plans for a destination wedding in the beautiful Croatian town, Split. Back in my studio, I researched Split and was so inspired by its Roman history that I knew I had to find a way to feature this in the destination wedding dress design. After a long search, I found a beautiful lace with embellished ornate motifs that, in an abstract way, reminded me of feathers or marine foliage. With Sheena having told me she’d like a one-shoulder wedding dress, I knew this lace would work so well in evoking that Roman goddess look without being too literal. Throughout the process, Sheena and I worked closely together to achieve the exact look that she wanted. The wedding dress needed to be exceptionally well-fitted yet with a fluid, almost liquid appearance in the skirt. As the design evolved, I decided that the lace motifs would cascade organically onto the silk georgette skirt and around that ultra fierce thigh split, creating a soft look for this modern wedding dress. I think Sheena looks out of this world and it was such a pleasure to design such a modern, unique destination wedding dress. Photography by Lily Bungay & Co.
